Sepo began his artistic career working for the publisher Maga in his native Italy. He moved to France in 1920, where he worked for Vercasson. During this period, advertising agencies would ask their artists to design generic posters, which the agencies could then shop around for a potential client. During the 1930s, Coen began representing some of Europe's top modernist designers, including Cassandre and Sepo.
